TIPS FOR USING IMBEE

DON'T

  • Give out your real name, address or phone number over the internet to a stranger. You never really know who you're talking to.
  • Ask someone their real name, address or phone number
  • Use inappropriate language or swearing
  • Write mean or untrue things about others on line. You wouldn't want them to do that to you, would you?
  • Give out your password, except to your parent or teacher. You don't want someone pretending to be you and writing things you would never write

DO

  • Invite everyone you know to join so that you can create your own imbee community online
  • Share your thoughts and experiences with others – just remember not to give specific personal information
  • HAVE FUN!!!

WHY CAN'T I SEE OTHER PEOPLE'S PROFILES?
imbee was created so that you and your friends could blog, email, and share pictures online without strangers contacting you.
WHY DOES MY PARENT HAVE TO ENTER A CREDIT CARD NUMBER OR GIVE THIER DRIVER'S LICENSE?
We need the information to verify that parents are who they say they are. It's part of the security system for our website which is different from others to help keep kids safe and secure.
MY PARENT AUTHORIZED ME BUT I STILL CAN'T DO ANYTHING.

Your parent still has to link your accounts together. They'll need to:

  1. The parent must log into their e-mail
  2. Click on the link from imbee.com.
  3. The parent must sign in
  4. If they already have an account, click the button that says 'I already have an account'
  5. Then the parent can choose to authorize the account.
It sounds like a lot but it will only take a couple of minutes. Have them call support if they have any questions.
HOW DO I GET FRIENDS?

To add friends:

  1. Go to your 'Friends' tab
  2. Click on 'Invite a Friend' and follow the directions from there.
You'll need to know your friend's email address or imbeename. Also, you must be authorized by your parent before you can use this feature.
WHAT ARE THE POINTS AND WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THEM?
The points are going to be something you can use in our imbee store which probably won't be open until later this year. In the meantime, you can keep earning points so that you have a whole bunch saved up.
WHAT ARE GROOVES?
Grooves are a fun way to know what your friends and other kids on imbee.com think. You can post a groove and then you can set it to private or public. Then your friends can answer the groove, and you can see the results!
HOW DO I DELETE A GROOVE I'VE MADE?
Follow these steps to delete a Groove:
  1. First, select the groove you want to delete.
  2. Then, select 'Edit Settings '.
  3. At the very top of the page, above where it says 'Private, imbee Only, or Public' there is a check box that says 'Close this Groove'.
  4. After you check the box, then click on 'Save' at the bottom of the page.
HOW DO I INVITE SOMEBODY TO A GROUP?
Follow these steps to invite somebody to group:
  1. Click on the 'Groups' tab at the top of the page.
  2. Click on 'My Groups' from the menu on the left hand side of the page.
  3. Click on the group that you want to invite people to.
  4. Click on 'Spread the Word about this Group' on the bottom left of the page.
  5. Follow the directions on the page (you will need the friend's imbeename or e-mail).
HOW DO I UPLOAD MUSIC?
Here are all the steps. Also, remember, the files have to be .mp3, and they need to be size 12M or less.
  1. Click on 'Audio'.
  2. Click on 'Upload Audio Track'.
  3. Click on the 'Browse' button next to the Audio Track (with the red asterisk next to it).
  4. Select the song from your computer that you want.
  5. Do the same thing with 'Audio Graphic', if you want a picture.
  6. Click on 'Next'. You may have to wait a minute depending on how fast your computer is, or how fast your connection speed is.
  7. You'll see a page that says 'Preview your Audio'. You can either click on the play button, or you can click on 'Submit'.
  8. Then you'll be on a page that says 'Audio -- Info'.
You're done! You can click on 'Personal Library' under the 'Media Menu' on the left hand side of the screen to see the songs in your audio library.
HOW DO I ADD PICTURES?
Follow these steps to add pictures:
  1. Click on the 'Media' tab on the top of the page.
  2. Click on 'Pictures' from the menu on the left.
  3. You can either choose 'Create a New Album' or add to an existing album.
  4. Click on 'Upload a New Picture'.
  5. Follow the directions from there.
HOW TO GET A NEW AVATAR?
Follow these steps to get a new avatar:
  1. Click on the 'Profile' tab at the top of the page.
  2. Click on 'Avatar' from the menu on the left.
  3. Scroll through the avatars and select one
  4. Click 'Submit'.
You can also upload your own avatar from your computer.

WHY DO I HAVE TO GIVE A CREDIT CARD TO A FREE SITE?
As part of the security system for the website to help keep the kids safe, we require authentication. The main way we do this is via a credit card. The site is free and the card is not charged. It is for verification purposes only. We do have other ways to authenticate. You can fax in a government issued ID, such as driver's license. Or, if you like you can provide your phone number and have a customer support person call you to authenticate over the phone, and they will still need a government ID.
HOW DO I CHECK/CHANGE THE SECURITY SETTINGS FOR MY CHILD?
Here is how to access the security settings page for your child.
  1. Log into imbee.com with parent's imbeename.
  2. Click on the 'Kids' tab on the top of the page.
  3. Click on the name of the child.
  4. Click on 'Security Settings' from the menu on the left.
HOW ARE YOU DIFFERENT FROM OTHER SITES?
Until you authorize your child's account, they will not have full access to the features on imbee.com. Each child on the site must have either a parent or a teacher also sign up to authorize the child's account. From there, we have built in security settings that allow you to set age-appropriate parameters related to your child's online activities within our site. You will also receive a daily report of all of your child's activity on imbee.com.
CAN STRANGERS SEARCH FOR MY CHILD ON YOUR SITE?
No, we do not have a search feature. Also, as part of the security settings, you can determine if you would like to approve each friend request your child sends or receives and you can cloak your child's imbeename for any groups they may join.
HOW CAN I CHANGE MY CHILD'S PASSWORD?
Follow these steps to change your child's password from your account:
  1. Log on under YOUR imbee name and password.
  2. Then click on the 'Kids' tab at the top of the page.
  3. Then click on your child's name in the left hand menu.
  4. Click on 'Profile'.
  5. Then, click on 'Personal Info' in the left hand menu. From there, you can change the password.

HOW MANY STUDENTS CAN I SIGN UP? I NOTICE THE HIGHEST NUMBER FOR REGISTRATION IS 30.
There is no limit to the amount of students you can sign up. The 30 students is not related to the number of students each teacher can have, but rather is related to the amount of materials that we send out to the teachers in their teacher packs. We send out this first set, of 10, 20, or 30, at no cost to the teacher. Teachers can order additional packs if they like. They can be ordered in sets of 30 or 50. This can be found under the 'Kids' tab. There you will find a link for 'Teacher Pack', and this is where you can place any new orders.
I KNOW THAT IMBEE.COM IS FREE FOR ME TO JOIN, BUT WHAT IS THE COST FOR MY STUDENTS?
There is no cost to join imbee.com at anytime, for any one. We are 100%, completely free!
